For Immediate Release

Devon-based Green Overhead Surf brand is proud to announce a Gnarly new partnership with 9trees.org to help create biodiverse woodlands throughout the UK.

This initiative is part of a wider plan for maintaining a healthy ocean ecosystem and helping preserve local wildlife, allowing them to thrive and reach their full potential.

By planting new saplings and creating biodiverse woodlands, 9trees.org and Green Overhead are together striving to create a better future for our natural world.

Green Overhead has long been committed to actively pursuing the perfect ‘yew’ a term used by fellow Surfboarders to congratulate others on catching a gnarly wave, although this phrase has taken on new meaning as 9Trees.org works to achieve harmony between the ocean and local woodlands.

Oceans and woodlands are intrinsically connected, as the health of one deeply impacts the health of the other. Trees act as a natural filter, absorbing pollutants and toxins from our tributaries and rivers before they flow into the oceans, Riverbank trees also while also helping to reduce erosion which stops river beds from silting up, the pebbles are the habitat for all kinds of aquatic life and a spawning ground for salmon and other fish along coasts. Trees also play an important role in climate regulation, absorbing vast amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The perfect ‘yew’ between Land and Sea is not just a dream but rather an achievable reality, and 9trees.org alongside Green Overhead is determined to make it happen.

By replanting and conserving woodlands, we can ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy what our environment has to offer, in all its diversity and beauty. Our actions today will shape the future of tomorrow.

Michael Cunningham Director of 9Trees said:

"We are excited to be partnering with Green Overhead in our mission to achieve the perfect ‘yew’ which will benefit not only our environment but also wildlife. By working together we can make a real difference and create a healthier, more sustainable future."

Danial Maker Director of Green Overhead said:

"We are proud to be working with 9Trees.org and recognise the importance of protecting our woodlands and oceans for future generations. This is an opportunity to create a lasting legacy and we are dedicated to making it happen."

Five Facts

1. Trees absorb harmful pollutants from the land, and the ocean such as nitrogen and phosphorus to help maintain the health of marine ecosystems.

2. Trees help prevent coastal erosion by the roots strengthening coastal land and cliffs trapping windblown sediment and in Mangroves they help reduce the energy of waves.

3. Yew trees are the oldest living organisms on earth, with some specimens estimated to be over 5000 years old! They're also incredibly long-lived, with some specimens still alive today having been planted over 1000 years ago.

4.Every time a surfboard is sold by Green Overboard a tree is planted in the UK. Surfers can add to the amount of trees to be planted if they want to support this Community interest Company even more!

5. The oldest Yew near 9Trees HQ is the European Yew in St Afan's churchyard in Llanafan-fawr, Wales, United Kingdom and we hope to build partnerships which will stand the test of time as we not only create places for nature and biodiversity but also to combat climate change through sequestration.

About 9Trees

https://www.9trees.org/

9Trees are a not-for-profit organisation. Income is reinvested into training, education and management of the woodlands created through subscriptions.

Rather than selling carbon credits, 9Trees are creating carbon sinks in the form of professionally managed broadleaf woodlands for wildlife and people. Their philosophy is simple; Plant 9 trees per person, per year, to help balance one individual’s personal carbon footprint.

By planting the right trees in the right place, 9Trees also promote biodiversity and enhance habitat corridors. Each tree is geolocated, keeping subscribers up to date with their progress until maturity.

9Trees contines to create amazing shelterbelts, habitat corridors as well as nature reserves, this is all possible by forging relationships with landowners all over the UK, offering them a free service that will see the UK once more rich in biodiversity.

9Trees also promotes jobs and skills within the local countryside and woodland sector by bringing communities together to create woodlands that benefit people and wildlife. 9Trees are for nature, wellbeing, rural Jobs and working to balance the UK’s carbon footprint.

9Trees is supported by experts working all over the UK in various capacities, a real team effort. This Pro-bono support is greatly appreciated by Ash and Mike, helping us plant 100,000 trees in the coming years.
